Massachusetts DOER Announces Solar Energy Program Updates and COVID-19 Incentive Extension

DOER Announces SMART Regulation Expansions and Extensions

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) just unveiled updates to its Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program that will go into effect on April 15, 2020.

The changes include:

  • Increasing the SMART program by 1,600 MW, expanding the total program capacity to 3,200 MW
  • Increasing incentive rates for behind-the-meter solar systems
  • Requiring energy storage on projects larger than 500kW in size
  • Strengthening consumer protection provisions

Additionally, in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the DOER is offering a blanket 6-month extension to all SMART project qualifications. Through these incentive programs, current solar users are already enjoying revenue for every kilowatt-hour of clean energy generation, in addition to savings on their utility bills.

In uncertain times, solar energy offers a prudent investment for companies looking to mitigate risk. By controlling energy costs through generating clean energy onsite, companies can benefit from 25+ years of reliable, fuel-free electricity to help power their operations.

EnterSolar has partnered with many Massachusetts companies over the years to provide customized solar solutions, and we have built lasting relationships with utilities, townships, and our clients. Check out our work by watching our Massachusetts Solar Highlight video:
